Quadrilateral Cards for New Years

When I first saw this idea of cutting a square of printed paper into 4 on an angle to make 4 cards, I was intrigued. I love anything on an angle! But it still took a while before I got around to trying it. I made these New Year’s Day cards last year and hope to do the same again this year.

Here are two of the cut pieces (apparently I didn’t photograph all 4 “corners”):

Because this printed washi paper had a directional design, I could only place the pieces in the corner that would make sense for the printed pattern:

A photo of the finished card:

And a close up of the kagami mochi that is symbolic of Japanese New Years. I was just learning to use alcohol markers here and was quite happy with the way the coloring turned out.

Light the Sky Let’s Celebrate card

This was a fun card to create! I loved the die cut fire bursts and tried to use gold foil under it but I didn’t like the way it looked. In the end, the background layer was sponged in concentric circles to simulate the colors changing as the fireworks exploded and spread through the skies…

Here’s a closeup of the sponge brushwork under the fire bursts and cut out:

I did the same for the smaller fire bursts in the lower corner:

I also did a fire burst in a heat embossed gold and added a jewel in the center…And a sentiment with a gold accent:

Last but not least, the inside of the card:

Wish the photos would do this card justice as it looks so much nicer in person! But hopefully you get the idea of the techniques used…Had a lot of fun making it!

Thanks for stopping by…have a wonderful day!

Holiday Wine Tags - more designs with pretty paper!

The New Year’s wine tag got me going….I did 3 more quick versions using Christmasy printed papers in the traditional holiday colors of red, green and gold! I used some retired DSP from Stampin’UP! from a few years back but also some from a pad of “watercolor” holiday prints from my local craft store. Here they are:

And here’s the backs of each wine tag with stamped images to coordinate, and enough white space to write a personal message:

Don’t you think these wine tags would look wonderful when you gift your next bottle of wine? Thanks for stopping by…have an amazing day!
