Jungle Pals standing fun fold birthday card

Salebration…it’s the two month promo period (Jan-Feb) when Stampin’UP! offers a special selection of free stamps, dies, dry embossing folders, and printed paper packs free with purchase. And this year (2024), I picked the Jungle Pals stamp set and dies for two of my freebies. Here’s the card I CASED from my friend Laura Seki, with her permission. CASEing a card means to “copy and share everything” where you use what has been shared, and make a change that makes the card our own!

I stamped the sloth from the stamp set and added a toucan to Laura’s design (also from the same stamp set). I used the corresponding dies to cut them out. Then I die cut the tree twice, adhering  the second die cut over the first but flipped (look at the branches for a clue!). I added some leaves and a panel as the background from the Daisy Designer Series Paper pack that looked lush and “tropical”. I wanted a custom greeting for a special 4 year old….so I printed this out using my computer and die cut it using the banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set (#159183).

The card design is a fun fold that includes a “pillar” (where the tree is adhered to) so the card actually stands upright. And the pillar folds up so that the card fits into a standard A2 envelope. (Sorry that I didn’t take a photo of it folded up!)

Here’s a close up of the sloth:

And a closeup of the toucan. I also used dimensionals to pop the leaves up in front of it.

On the back, I added another sloth and a vine:

For this sloth, I stamped it on Crumb Cake cardstock before die cutting it. Hoping the special birthday boy liked his card! Would you if you were 4??

Zany Zoo/Zoo Crew Thank you to a knitter

There’s a super fun DSP (Designer Series Paper) paper pack called Zoo Crew which is part of the Zany Zoo Suite with stamps and corresponding dies.  Recently, I created a thank you card for a special knitter friend. The knitting llama was just perfect! I decided on a bridge card and here’s the final card:

If you’re not familiar with a “bridge” fun fold card, this is a top view of it, which makes the “bridge” and design of the card clearer:

I used several products, retired and current for this card! First and foremost is the seated llama who is knitting. It’s from the Zoo Crew DSP pack and yes I had to fussy cut it out with my paper snips.  But it’s so worth the time and effort to fussy cut!

The card base is Balmy Blue card stock 8 x 4.25” and I’ve used two patterns from the Bright and Beautiful DSP pack as the back ground of this card.  The “bridge” is made from one of the Nested Essential Dies and cut from Petal Pink cardstock.

The sentiment is from the Flowering Flowers cling stamp set (stamped in Poppy Parade ink) and the heart is punched from the Bee Builder punch.

The card needed something more for a  back drop behind the knitting llama so I used the window die from the Welcoming Window bundle and the tree/scenery from the Happy Home set from many years back! Here’s a close up of the window:

And a close up of how it looks with the window “behind” the llama:

And because there was no space to even sign this card on the front, I added a Basic White panel on the back side.

I had a ton of fun pulling in various sets that I have to make this card. I hope you enjoyed my run down of how it was made. The various items used to create this card (much older items excluded) are listed below. Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

Faux Shaker Cards with Santas Express DSP

Apologies that I didn't finish posting some of my holiday cards in early January but I was out of town for a few days then caught a nasty flu from my family. And then I was out for several weeks! Stay healthy folks...!!

I wanted to make an interactive card and decided to make faux shaker cards. I used Santa's Express DSP and cut a 4x5.25" panel of it. Then I put the DSP into a clear cellophane bag sized for an A2 card and tucked in the edge on one side to fit the panel snugly. I added various sequins into the bag and taped it shut! Ribbon across and a die cut of the Ho Ho Ho side of one of the other designs in the DSP pack and ...the card was done! Here are a couple of close ups of both:

Baby Girl dresser drawers card All For Baby

I bought this stamp and die set a while ago since I didn't have anything in this category. I finally pulled it out the other day when I got a request for a baby card. And as things in the universe sometimes happen this way, the very next day, I got a second request for a baby card! Luckily both were girls so I made two like this:

It may sound silly but I had always wanted to make a baby card with dresser drawers. Here's the first card, I still need to make a second one. And hopefully I'll make an extra one or two to list on my Etsy shop!

Zany Zoo interactive flip or swing card

There's a new, super fun printed paper pack called Zoo Crew, with a corresponding stamp set (Zany Zoo) and dies too (Zany Zoo Dies). It has all sorts of cartoon like animals...a raccoon holding a bouquet of balloons, a llama sits knitting, the aardvark holding a gift, etc. I received a special order for a birthday card and decided to create this interactive "flip" or "swing" card... and this is how it turned out...

Now open the card and the message starts to "flip"...

Here's a partial view of the inside:

And here's in the inside fully opened, with room to sign the card and add a personal message. The adorable mini cupcakes are from an old retired set call Tasty Trucks and seemed to match the koala bear's juggling cupcakes perfectly!

I love making interactive cards like this...little ones and adults alike love the simple action of this card.

The Zany Zoo paper pack is available online, as is the stamp and die sets that coordinate. The die set I used to create the card base however is an old old old Sizzix set and is no longer available. Let me know if you'd like to order the Zany Zoo paper pack, stamp set or corresponding dies online...I'm always happy to help with any questions...

Hand Penned Friend card

Hand Penned is a stamp set with coordinating dies from the current 2022-23 Stampin’Up! catalog. The DSP paper pack retired but the stamp set is still available and there are more and more pins with cards featuring it every day! I absolutely love this set and have used it many times. I recently found the set of card bases and matching envelopes so I created the following using some of my last pieces of the DSP pack:

The "friend" sentiment is from the "Happiness Abounds" stamp set, which is also another fave! (I can't believe I haven't posted any pics of cards made with this set or the beautiful paper pack...except that I haven't posted many cards at all period.)

The butterfly die is from my stash and creates a nice focal. Tiny pearls add a touch of elegance, but oh so subtly.  I’ll be adding these cards to my Etsy shop soon. Please visit at KikumiDesigns.Etsy.com if you’re curious.

Sunshine & Rainbow DSP cards

Reorganizing my craft supplies recently, I came across this DSP pack, which was a freebie with purchase during Salebration I think last year at this time! I thought it was high time to create with it.

I wanted to create a cheery get well card for a neighbor who had an unfortunate fall recently and was recovering from surgery. Thought this DSP pack would fit the bill perfectly! I picked two coordinating prints, selected Polished Pink as the card base then fussy cut the rainbow and clouds from other sheets in the DSP pack. Added the sentiment and some rhinestones and this basic Z-fold was the finished product:

So once I got this first card Z-fold card done, I created several more, some with get well wishes and others  for birthdays (it’s always good to have something in one’s stash of cards!)

This Z-fold card design is pretty basic but if you’re a new card maker and would like some measurements to help you create this type of card, please contact me using the side bar link.

Thanks for stopping by. Hoping you’re inspired to create something fun today.

Mountain Air

I love this masculine/gender neutral card! It reminds me of a famous phrase by Ansel Adams: “the mountains are calling and I must go”!!

The card base is Crumb Cake and the Mint Macaron mat layer is embossed with the Trees 3D Embossing Folder. I’ve sponged the blue skies in Balmy Blue and stamped the mountains using Crumb Cake. The trees were stamped using Pretty Peacock (retired) and you’ll notice that I’ve stamped using the “stamped off” technique to give the illusion of trees fading into the distance. Another stamped set of trees were die cut and the knotted twine (from my craft stash) added a finished touch to the card.

This card is available for purchase while quantities last from my Etsy shop at https://KikumiDesigns.Etsy.com
